This chair and matching ottoman started out in a light beige nubuck — a soft, textured material. Heavy use had left dark, oily stains on the headrest and worn, discoloured patches across the back and seat. The owner wanted more than a cleanup: a darker, more practical finish that would be easier to maintain.
This was more involved than recoloring finished leather because the original nubuck had a soft, absorbent surface rather than a smooth protective finish. The nap had to be prepared and sealed before the new finish could be applied. The existing stains were also too deep to simply blend away, so the new color needed enough coverage to create an even surface across the chair and ottoman.
The chair and ottoman were transformed from light beige nubuck to a smooth, warm cognac-brown leather finish. The dark stains and discolored areas were fully covered, while the new sealed surface gives the set a more practical finish for regular use and everyday maintenance.
